hair loss treatment

Have you ever seen your mother, aunt or grandmother loosing large number of hair every time she brushes her hair? Or it may be your personal experience as well. Contrary to the old belief, hair loss is not a gender specific problem. In fact, it can be seen in women also. While men develop bald patches due to continuous hair fall, female hair loss pattern is different. Female hair loss patients usually experience an overall thinning of hair from all areas of their head. This pattern is followed in most female patients. With the growing extent of hair loss issues, more options are coming up for female hair loss treatment in Dubai.

Effect of Hair Loss in female

The psychological effects of hair loss are more pronounced and devastating in women than in men because hairs are associated with a woman’s beauty. Healthy, shiny and long hairs are considered the best jewel of a woman especially in Asian culture. Hair loss affects a woman’s image of self, badly. She fells a victim to low self-confidence and self-esteem. Hair loss may affect a woman’s personal, social and marital life.

Hair Loss Treatments

Medicines and hair transplant are two widely used hair loss treatments. While they can be used individually, many hair loss experts suggest them simultaneously. In such a situation, medicines work to stop hair loss and hair transplant works to increase hair volume in a thinning area or initiate hair growth in a bald area.

MEDICINES:

Anti-androgens are good for female hair loss treatment. They prevent androgens from affecting tissues thereby preventing miniaturization of hair follicles and reducing hair loss. Anti-androgens are also present in environment due to anti-androgenic effects of chemicals, pesticides and insecticides but these are harmful for fetus development.

  1. Ketoconazole: it is a mild anti-androgen which is available over-the-counter. It is an effective treatment for dermatitis, dandruff and scalp microflora.
  2. Spironolactone: it reduces androgen production and also prevents them to affect tissues. It can be topically or systematically administered. It increases estrogen level and thus has feminizing side effects and cannot be used in male hair loss patients.
  3. Minoxidil: it is an FDA approved topical application that helps stimulate miniaturized hair follicles to start hair growth. Females can use 2% Minoxidil to treat hair loss.
  4. Flutamide: it is more active in anti-androgen activity than Spironolactone. It also has estrogen side effects like Gynecomastia in males. But this increased level of estrogen is not troublesome for female patients however; Flutamide has a great tendency to cause liver problems.

HAIR TRANSPLANT:

Previously, hair transplant was not considered a female hair loss treatment. But now, females make as good candidates as do men make. In fact, everyone can have a hair transplant provided the individual has sufficient supply of donor hair follicles.

Hair transplant is a surgical solution but the best thing is that, it is a minimally invasive surgery. It does not involve much intervention on your scalp tissues. It is performed in a hair restoration clinic and the patient is free to go home right after the surgery. It can be performed on female hair loss patients who have lost their hair due to male pattern baldness, trauma, traction alopecia, Trichotillomania, alopecia areata, drugs or a treatment.

Hair transplant does not give you quick results. In fact, transplanted hair follicles need time to attach themselves to the local blood supply and then they start their hair growing cycle. Within two to three months you see hair growing from a previously bald area. Medicines and hair transplant are sometimes used simultaneously as a single female hair loss treatment.
